about the silversmith artist Blue Crockatt archive picture learning silversmithing with my father in New Mexico
"Silversmithing is a very interresting art and also very demanding. It's with passion & pride that it was passed on exclusively to me by my father. Has a silversmith artist for over 35 years, he is now well knowned in southwestern United States. I introduced him to the internet in the late 90's as a selling method. Together we built him a nice website which got lot of visitors. It turned out great for him as he no longer wanted to travel setting up tents & tables for the jewelry in shows. As a jewelry artist we certainly prefer making jewelry compared to actually selling it in person. Participating in craft shows and expositions requires to carry an huge inventory. For exemple you need rings in all sizes. It is a very physical job doing all the required setup & standing up all day, sometimes under the sun.
Working over the internet has been much easyer. Also it has been giving me opportunity to give people many ways to customize their jewelry. It enabled me to reach so many people all around the world. Everything shown on my website is available to purchase in any size & with a wide selection of gemstones for people to choose from. I do not have to carry everything as I make it upon order exactly as the customer wants it. I only need to carry all the material in order to make everything listed. I handmake all orders as they are ordered & then put them in the polishing machine for about 24 hours. I also offer add initials, or some customers request other types specific customizations. My biggest challenge was to get my website knowed. On the internet, you can have the best jewelry ever, at the lowest price ever, but it wont sell if nobody knows about it. People need to be able to find your website while surfing. In this century, publicity is everywhere and gets less meaningful than it used to. Mouth-to-mouth has been the best way for me to reach more people. By chance my art is the kind that people wear & it gets noticed and people ask my customers where they can find it. Most people learn about my website by someone they know who already purchased something from me. So I would like to say a special thank you to all of those who talked about my work to friends & coworkers."
